# Matter Workflows

> 24 specialized AI workflows for cross-document legal analysis

## Overview

Matter Workflows are AI-powered analytical tools that work across your entire document set. Unlike single-document analysis, these workflows extract, compare, and synthesize information from every document in your matter simultaneously.

Each workflow is designed for a specific legal task - building chronologies, finding contradictions, mapping party relationships, or extracting termination rights. The results provide a starting point for your analysis, not a final work product. Always review AI outputs with professional judgment.

## Running a Workflow

## Core Workflows

These six workflows apply to any matter type - transactional, litigation, or general legal work.

### Definition Consistency Analysis

**Purpose:** Extract all defined terms from every document and identify where the same term has different definitions.

**What It Does:**

1. **Extracts defined terms** from each document - finds terms introduced with "means," parenthetical aliases like "(the 'Buyer')," definitions by reference, and labeled values in schedules.

2. **Groups by term name** across documents - if "Material Adverse Effect" appears in five agreements, all five definitions are collected together.

3. **AI analysis of differences** - distinguishes between:
   * **True inconsistencies** - Same term, genuinely conflicting definitions that could cause interpretation disputes
   * **Contextual differences** - Expected variations (e.g., "Company" refers to different entities in different agreements)
   * **Self-references** - Terms defined by reference to another document

**Output Includes:**

* Complete term list with definitions and source documents
* Highlighted inconsistencies with severity ratings
* AI synthesis explaining which definition should control

### Master Timeline

**Purpose:** Build a comprehensive chronology of all dates, deadlines, and events across the matter.

**What It Does:**

1. **Extracts dates** from every document - contract dates, filing deadlines, transaction milestones, historical events, notice periods.

2. **Classifies date types:**
   * **Exact dates** - Specific calendar dates
   * **Relative dates** - "30 days after Closing"
   * **Recurring** - Annual renewal dates, quarterly reporting
   * **Conditional** - Triggered by events

3. **Context-aware extraction** - Uses different prompts for litigation matters (court deadlines, discovery cutoffs) versus transactional matters (closing conditions, regulatory filings).

4. **Synthesizes chronology** - Organizes events into a unified timeline, identifies upcoming deadlines, flags potential conflicts.

### Entity Relationship Graph

**Purpose:** Map all parties, entities, and their relationships across the matter with interactive visualization.

**What It Does:**

1. **Extracts entities** from document metadata and content - companies, individuals, government bodies, third parties.

2. **Normalizes names** - Merges variations like "ACME Corporation," "ACME Corp.," and "Acme" into a single entity.

3. **Identifies relationships** - Ownership, representation, employment, affiliation. For litigation, maps plaintiff/defendant/witness relationships. For transactions, maps buyer/seller/guarantor structures.

4. **Generates interactive graph** - Force-directed visualization showing entity connections. Click nodes for details.

### Contradiction Finder

**Purpose:** Identify conflicting statements, inconsistent facts, and logical contradictions across documents.

**What It Does:**

1. **Phase 1: Evidence Extraction** - Pulls factual claims, dates, amounts, and statements from each document using advanced reasoning (GPT-5.2).

2. **Phase 2: Contradiction Detection** - Groups evidence by topic and compares for conflicts. Looks for:
   * Different dates for the same event
   * Conflicting factual statements
   * Inconsistent financial figures
   * Contradictory party positions

3. **Severity classification:**
   * **Critical** - Direct contradiction that affects legal positions
   * **Major** - Significant inconsistency requiring resolution
   * **Minor** - Discrepancy that may be explainable

### Key Document Summary

**What It Does:**

2. **Pass 2: Deep Analysis** - For candidates, analyzes full content to extract:
   * Key quotes and provisions

   * **Transactional:** Deal blockers, risk documents, condition precedents, required consents

When a workflow completes:

## Troubleshooting

    Large matters or complex workflows may take longer. The workflow runs in the background - you can continue working. Check the Workflow Results tab for completion.

  <Accordion title="Definitions or terms missing">
    The extraction looks for explicit definitions. Terms that are merely used but never defined won't appear in Definition Consistency. Consider whether the term actually has a formal definition in your documents.

    The AI normalizes name variations but may miss some. You can export the data and manually consolidate if needed.
